RESIDENTS of Newton Abbot stood shoulder to shoulder on Friday to show support for Ukraine.
More than 50 people, many of whom lit and held a candle to mark the occasion, attend the vigil organised by Newton Crisis Aid.
Jacky Bennett of Newton Crisis Aid who helped organise the event said: ‘It’s been a collective effort of about five or six of us
‘It is just to show support, that’s all it is really, and to recognise that what’s going on in Ukraine is something that we never thought would happen.’
Representatives of the charity, formed in September 2015 as a response to the refugee crisis in Syria, were also on hand selling pots of sunflower seeds – the national flower of Ukraine.
