Lidl plans for new estate are resubmitted

SUPERMARKET giants Lidl have submitted an amended planning application for a store in Bovey Tracey.

The original application was withdrawn earlier this year.

Despite strong support from people wanting a cheap local supermarket, more than 200 objections were lodged with the district’s planning authority.

The budget chain mounted a campaign asking residents whether the store was wanted and if so what they would like to see.

The resulting revised submission, described as hybrid planning application for full planning permission for Class E foodstore with associated parking, servicing and landscaping, includes changes to the external appearance of the building which would sit alongside Monks Way near the new Challabrook housing development.

The new submission incorporates an amended palette of external materials, comprising rendered white walls broken up by panels of random coursed ashlar stone, with an element of public art to be incorporated on the east elevation fronting the A382.

The total site area comprises 2.32 acres/0.9 hectares and the proposal is to sub divide into two sites: the Lidl store itself with some 2,000 sq m floor space and 100 parking spaces, as well as a separate plot of land to be used as employment land. They will be bounded by an existing drainage ditch and a footpath.
